Curragh Recap: Bucanero Fuerte Shows Great Determination in Winning the Railway Stakes

Bucanero Fuerte Triumphs in GAIN Railway Stakes

In a stunning display of resilience and determination, Bucanero Fuerte emerged victorious in the GAIN Railway Stakes at the Curragh. Jockey Adrian Murray, known for his previous triumph with Valiant Force at Royal Ascot, guided the colt to a thrilling finish. Despite concerns that the quick turnaround from Royal Ascot would hinder Bucanero Fuerte’s performance, he defied expectations by showcasing his true potential. In a neck-and-neck battle with Aidan O’Brien’s Unquestionable, the Wootton Bassett colt refused to surrender and surged ahead just before the finish line.

This victory marks Rossa Ryan’s second win in three years at this prestigious event. The jockey previously secured first place with Go Bears Go in 2021. Speaking about Bucanero Fuerte, Murray praised his tenacity and revealed their plans for upcoming races. “He’s a tough horse,” Murray said. “We took a chance running him today so soon after Ascot, but he proved us right. He showed incredible form during training this week.” As for future races, Murray hinted that Bucanero Fuerte may participate in the Phoenix Stakes or even travel to France. However, they will prioritize giving him some well-deserved rest before making any final decisions.

With regards to strategy, Aguiar emphasized how crucial it was to capitalize on Bucanero Fuerte’s stamina by stepping up his distance: “We made plenty of use of him knowing he could handle it.” Aguiar also shed light on the promising pedigree behind their winning colt: “He comes from strong bloodlines—by Wootton Bassett—and his dam has produced Group One winner Wooded.”

Commanche Falls Victorious in Jebel Ali Racecourse & Stables Dash Stakes

The talented Commanche Falls continued his winning streak by securing a hard-fought victory in the Jebel Ali Racecourse & Stables Dash Stakes at the Curragh. This impressive triumph adds to his already impressive tally of ten wins. Trained by Michael Dods, Commanche Falls made his debut in Ireland with an emphatic performance. Coming off a remarkable third-place finish in the Duke of York Stakes, he was sent off as the 5-4 favorite.

Despite facing early challenges from Anthem National and Mooneista, Commanche Falls showcased his trademark finishing prowess. As he stormed past his competitors just over a furlong from the finish line, it became clear that victory was within reach. Anthem National settled for second place, while Mooniesta finished half a length behind in third. The win further solidifies Commanche Falls’ reputation as a formidable competitor and has earned him favorable odds for another Coral Stewards’ Cup win.

Chloe Dods, assistant to her father Michael Dods, expressed confidence in Commanche Falls’ ability to excel in higher-caliber races: “He always takes time to warm up during races—a trait we find reassuring. Connor believes he will perform even better against stronger competition.” Dods also praised the horse’s temperament and training regimen: “Commanche Falls is incredibly relaxed at home and doesn’t get flustered easily. He’s easy to train and handle.” Considering limited race options available in the UK, Chloe Dods revealed their decision to compete at the Curragh: “We came here because there are more opportunities for him. If there are future events that suit him here again, we won’t hesitate to return.”

With each victorious stride forward, both Bucanero Fuerte and Commanche Falls continue to cement their names among racing’s elite performers—a testament to their talent and the skill of their respective teams.
