Defending Wimbledon Champion Elena Rybakina Pulls Out of Eastbourne International Tennis Tournament

Unforeseen Circumstances: Elena Rybakina Withdraws from Eastbourne International Tournament

The tennis world has been thrown into disarray with the sudden withdrawal of Wimbledon champion, Elena Rybakina, from the Eastbourne International tournament. This unexpected move has raised concerns regarding her fitness for this year’s Wimbledon.

Rybakina, who represents Kazakhstan and won her first Grand Slam title last year, was set to participate in this year’s tournament beginning on 3 July. However, she informed reporters that she is still recovering from a virus which caused her to withdraw from the French Open in June.

“My team and I decided it would be better to recover this week and prepare for Wimbledon,” said Rybakina. I am still recuperating from the virus I had in Paris and after Roland Garros; it was really tough.

This unforeseen setback raises questions about whether or not Rybakina will be able to compete at Wimbledon later this month. The 24-year-old also revealed that she picked up another minor issue while playing in Berlin last week where she lost to Donna Vekic in the last 16.

Ranked third globally, Rybakina had been seeded as top seed for Eastbourne International before withdrawing at short notice due to health reasons. Her replacement is Croatian lucky loser Petra Martic who will face British number one Katie Boulter in their opening match.

    A Promising Future Ahead?

Elena Rybakina has shown promise since bursting onto the scene winning her first Grand Slam title just over a year ago but only time will tell if these recent setbacks have derailed any further success. To keep updated on all Tennis news sign-up today!
