Dettori enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of the Breeders’ Cup

Frankie Dettori Savors “Ryder Cup Atmosphere” Ahead of Breeders’ Cup

Veteran jockey Frankie Dettori is relishing a thrilling atmosphere reminiscent of the Ryder Cup as he prepares for his upcoming high-profile rides at this year’s Breeders’ Cup meeting held at Santa Anita.

This renowned event seemed to mark one of Dettori’s final appearances after announcing his retirement towards the end of last year. However, a surprising change in plans will see him continue competing in California throughout the Christmas period and beyond, as he sets his sights on establishing himself as a full-time rider Stateside.

The 52-year-old has secured several top-notch mounts over the weekend, including Aidan O’Brien’s Unquestionable in Friday’s Juvenile Turf. On Saturday, Inspiral in the Filly & Mare Turf and King Of Steel in the Turf are among his notable contenders.

Dettori also anticipates partnering with American trainer Chad Brown aboard Zandon for the prestigious Breeders’ Cup Classic. Nonetheless, despite riding for an American stable, he sees himself representing Europe as part of an away team.

“The electrifying ambiance at the Breeders’ Cup resembles that of the Ryder Cup and I’m honored to be carrying Europe’s colors,” expressed Dettori enthusiastically from Santa Anita trackside on Thursday morning.

“I can’t wait to kick off this meet on Boxing Day,” Dettori added, referencing his excitement for the first day of racing at Santa Anita.

Regarding Zandon, Dettori shared, “He is a dependable stayer who clinched third place in last year’s Kentucky Derby.”

Dettori has partnered with Chad Brown on multiple occasions. He commented on Zandon’s recent performance, saying, “I thought he looked impressive in his victory during the Woodward stakes.”
