Dettori’s Joy as Trawlerman Triumphs on Jockey’s Farewell in the UK

Frankie Dettori’s Farewell to Britain: Trawlerman Triumphs in Spectacular Fashion

The Perfect Start for the Italian Jockey

In a stunning display of skill and determination, Frankie Dettori bid farewell to British horseracing with a remarkable victory in the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot.

Dettori, who is set to embark on a new chapter in his career across the Atlantic, made sure his last appearance in European action would not be forgotten. Riding Trawlerman at odds of 9-1, he showcased his trademark flying dismount as they crossed the finish line.

    A Battle Until the End

Trawlerman found himself leading the two-mile race with half a mile left after pacesetter Maxident dropped off suddenly. However, it seemed like his lead wouldn’t hold as Kyprios (11-10 favorite) closed in on him down the home straight and overtook him with just two furlongs remaining.

But Dettori wasn’t ready to give up just yet. Displaying incredible horsemanship and tactical brilliance, he reined back Trawlerman and expertly maneuvered past Kyprios on its outside. In an exhilarating final surge, Trawlerman stuck out its head right on the line for an astonishing comeback victory.

A Special Moment for Frankie Dettori

The crowd erupted as Dettori claimed triumph over one of his greatest rivals, Ryan Moore, on his final day in British racing. Reflecting on the race, Dettori couldn’t hide his excitement:

“I heard the roar of the crowd – oh my god it was special – especially when I was cutting him back, I couldn’t believe it.

I’ve beaten one of my greatest rivals who I have tremendous respect for in Ryan Moore, on my final day. Sensational.”

    Masterful Riding and Strategic Decisions

Dettori’s trainer John Gosden also applauded the jockey’s exceptional skills:

“The plan was to go forward, but when we realized that another horse would set a blistering pace upfront, Dettori showed immense genius by not pushing Trawlerman too hard early on. Instead, he strategically used Kyprios as a target and launched a perfectly timed attack just when everyone thought he was out of contention.

This display of judgement is what makes Dettori such an exceptional jockey. We are fortunate to witness two incredible riders like Dettori and Ryan Moore competing together.”

    A Horse with Unyielding Determination

Trawlerman’s victory wasn’t solely down to Dettori’s brilliance; credit must be given to the remarkable performance from the horse itself. Gosden acknowledged Trawlerman’s unwavering spirit:

“I knew this horse had something left in him even after Kyprios took over so easily. He kept fighting until the very end and proved himself worthy of this incredible win.”

The Future Looks Promising for Kyprios

Kyprios’ trainer Aidan O’Brien expressed satisfaction with his horse’s performance, considering it was only his second start of the season:

“He ran well, although he would have preferred better ground. It is encouraging to see him bounce back from his earlier setback and show such great progress since then.

I believe Kyprios has a bright future ahead of him, and I look forward to seeing what he can achieve next year.”
