Ducati’s MotoGP journey embarked on a fresh chapter in 2015, says Tardozzi

Ducati Makes MotoGP History with Back-to-Back Titles

In a stunning display of dominance, Italian manufacturer Ducati has achieved back-to-back riders’ titles in MotoGP. The historic accomplishment took place in the years 2022 and 2023, marking the first time in Ducati’s history that they have won consecutive championships.

With rider Francesco Bagnaia at the helm, Ducati showcased their prowess on the track throughout these two seasons. The team secured an impressive total of 43 podium finishes and claimed victory in an outstanding seventeen grand prix races across their eight talented riders.

The success didn’t end there for Ducati as they also clinched both the constructors’ crown and teams’ title with Pramac. This remarkable achievement solidified their position as a force to be reckoned with in the world of MotoGP.

A Triumph After Years of Dedication:

Ducati had to endure a fifteen-year wait between their first championship win and securing their second title. Following Casey Stoner’s triumph in 2007, the team faced a decline in form that resulted in several challenging years without claiming another race win until 2016.

However, everything changed when veteran technician Gigi Dall’Igna was appointed as Ducatis’s general manager at the end of 2013 after being brought over by Audi in 2012. Dall’Igna’s arrival marked a turning point for the team.

Under his management, Ducati introduced a new bike design in 2015 that would set them on an entirely new trajectory. This particular machine served as the catalyst for what Tardozzi, Ducati Team manager, refers to as their “new history” in MotoGP.

    An Evolutionary Machine:

The current championship-winning GP23 is not a revolutionary creation but rather an evolution of the 2015 model. According to Tardozzi, this steady progression played a pivotal role in establishing Ducati’s competitive edge against their rivals.

Tardozzi emphasized how crucial it was for Ducati to overcome the period when many believed that only Casey Stoner could effectively ride their bikes. The team can now proudly boast eight riders who have all proven themselves to be highly competitive on the track.

This achievement reflects years of dedication and continuous development by Ducati’s engineering team. In order to stay ahead of tough competitors, they constantly evolve their bikes and ensure they remain at peak performance levels.

Tardozzi concluded with excitement about their current position: “We are happy about this situation.” He acknowledged both the challenges faced by competitors and his pride in managing results amidst evolving racing dynamics.

    A Year of Triumphs:

Ducati’s remarkable success story didn’t just come down to one rider or race; it involved multiple triumphs across their entire lineup throughout the 2023 season.

    • Six out of eight riders secured grand prix victories,
    • All eight drivers achieved podium finishes at least once during this twenty-round campaign,

Such exceptional results have solidified Ducati’s reputation as a powerhouse in the MotoGP world. With their unwavering commitment to innovation and relentless pursuit of excellence, this Italian manufacturer has etched its name in the annals of motorsport history.
