Bewinner Sports News: Argentine Golfer’s Dramatic Win at Charles Schwab Challenge
Emiliano Grillo, an Argentine golfer, ended his long wait for a win on the PGA Tour after clinching victory in a dramatic playoff at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Grillo had taken a two-shot lead with only one hole to play when disaster struck and his ball found its way into a stream.
The Agonizing Wait
The ball drifted right and took almost seven minutes before coming to rest against a rock approximately 100 yards away. During that agonizing wait, TV cameras captured the drama as Grillo could only stand by helpless as he waited for it to stop.
Eventually, after taking a drop following the bizarre events of the last hole which saw him rescue double-bogey, he tied with Adam Schenk at eight-under ensuring there would be extra holes played.
The Victory is Worth The Wait
In what turned out to be an emotional rollercoaster ride for Emiliano Grillo- who became only the second Argentinian in history to win at Colonial Country Club since Roberto De Vicenzo claimed victory back in 1957 – was able to finally celebrate lifting his first trophy on PGA tour since October 2015! His efforts were rewarded accordingly with $1.566 million USD worth of prize money!
Afterwards in an interview with Bewinner sports news correspondent, Emiliano explained: “I’ve done it before; I’ve hit the exact same shot…when I saw one of marshals walk right off the tree; I knew it was going to be long until that ball stopped.” He further added: “It feels great…Happy to be champion in Colonial…I said it few times that I wasn’t going to retire without winning here, and I’m lucky that I got it done in the last year before the renovations. I’m excited.”
Grillo’s win was more than worth the wait and a testament to his dedication, hard work, and persistence.
