“You get net bowlers lining up for hours – they have their phones out filming so that if they get a wicket, they can add it to social media,” reveals Ravindra.

Despite the distractions, Ravindra remained focused on his training goals. He emphasized the importance of putting ego aside and constantly seeking improvement.

“Having that learning and growth mindset means you can get little nuggets of gold from anyone. If you’re not looking to improve yourself, you’re doing yourself a disservice,” explains Ravindra.

A Special Bond with His Father

Ravindra’s journey in cricket has been closely intertwined with his father’s role as both coach and mentor. Although they have clashed at times, their strong relationship allows them to work through challenges together.

“There are times when you get frustrated…that you and your dad clash heads,” admits Ravindra. “But we chat through things a lot.”

Still Seeking That Breakout Performance

Ravindra has already represented New Zealand in all three formats but is yet to have a standout performance that defines his career. However, he remains optimistic about the future.

“It was a good wicket to bat on, lucky enough for me,” recalls Ravindra, referring to his impressive score of 217 against Worcestershire during last year’s tour of England as an opener – his preferred position.
