Euro 2024 Qualification Update: Current Standings for Germany’s Finals

The Race to Secure a Place in the European Championships

The first international break of the 2023-24 season signals the resumption of qualifying matches for next summer’s highly anticipated European Championships. Over six intense days, nations across Europe will battle it out on the field as they strive to secure their spot in the finals set to be held in Germany.

While some countries are already comfortably positioned, others face an uphill struggle to qualify and must put in significant effort if they want to make it through.

A Scottish Dominance Amidst Fierce Competition

In Group A, Scotland has been enjoying tremendous success so far. They sit at the top with a flawless record of four wins from four matches, accumulating an impressive 12 points. Their upcoming fixture against Cyprus presents them with an excellent opportunity to extend their lead even further since Cyprus currently languishes at the bottom without any points after three games played. Having already defeated Cyprus 3-0 back in March at Hampden Park, Steve Clarke’s team will be eager to maintain their winning streak.

However, Scotland should remain cautious about Spain and other chasing teams who possess games in hand and could potentially build momentum with consecutive victories within this break.

An Epic Clash Between England and Scotland Looms Ahead

In another exciting matchup during this international break, old rivals England and Scotland will meet each other on English soil for their much-awaited 150th anniversary game at Hampden Park. Before that showdown takes place though, Gareth Southgate’s team will face Ukraine in their sole qualifier of the break. England currently sits at the top of their group with a perfect record from four matches, and a victory against Ukraine would strengthen their position even more.

    Wales Struggling to Keep Pace

Wales finds themselves in a challenging situation as they try to secure qualification for next summer’s finals. With only four points from four games played, they currently lag behind Group D leaders Turkey, who boast nine points. Additionally, Wales trails behind second-placed Armenia by two points; however, Armenia has only played three matches thus far.

The upcoming game between Armenia and Turkey will shed light on Wales’ chances going forward. Regardless, Rob Page’s side must secure a win when they take on bottom-of-the-table Latvia during this international break to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Northern Ireland Facing an Uphill Battle

In Group H, Northern Ireland is facing an uphill battle after collecting just three points from their first four matches. This leaves them six points adrift of Finland and Kazakhstan – the current top two teams in the group standings.

Victories in both fixtures during this break are crucial for Northern Ireland if they want to maintain any hope of qualifying. They kick off with an away match against Slovenia followed by a home game against second-placed Kazakhstan.

The Republic of Ireland Fighting Back

The Republic of Ireland finds themselves locked in intense competition within Group B as they aim for European Championships qualification. Currently sitting third with one win out of three games played, they trail Greece by three points – who occupy second place.

This international break presents vital opportunities for The Republic of Ireland as they face formidable opponents: France and the Netherlands consecutively. A tough away fixture awaits them against group leaders and 2022 World Cup runners-up, France, followed by a home game against the Netherlands.

    Italy Seeking Redemption

After missing out on the 2022 World Cup, Italy is now engaged in another battle to secure their place in next summer’s European Championships. They currently find themselves in third position within their group led by England – a team that defeated them in one of two matches played so far.

Under the guidance of new manager Luciano Spalletti, Italy seeks redemption as they face North Macedonia first for a chance at revenge. This will be followed by an important home match against second-placed Ukraine just days later.

The Decisive Battle for Group F Supremacy

In Group F, Belgium finds themselves in a decent position as they trail leaders Portugal by three points. With four games already under their belt, Belgium aims to close this gap and cement their standing as strong contenders for qualification.
