Exeter Manager Applauds Young Captain’s Exceptional Leadership Skills

Exeter Boss Rob Baxter Praises Leadership Qualities of Dafydd Jenkins

In a recent turn of events, Exeter Chiefs’ head coach Rob Baxter has expressed his admiration for the exceptional leadership skills displayed by Welsh lock Dafydd Jenkins.

Jenkins, at just 20 years old, has already made quite an impact on the Premiership side. Despite his young age, he featured in all five of Wales’ World Cup games and has started in the Chiefs’ last two fixtures. He joined Exeter in the summer of 2021 and made his Wales debut in November 2022.

“Dafydd’s potential is immense,” exclaimed Baxter with enthusiasm. “I have observed numerous commendable qualities in him, which is precisely why he has been entrusted with leading the team.”

The former Bridgend player for Wales Under-20s stands alongside other promising Welsh talents at Exeter – Christ Tshiunza, Joe Hawkins, and Emmanuel Feyi-Waboso.

Baxter further highlighted that despite being relatively new to professional rugby and taking charge of calling line-outs for the team as well, there is considerable pressure on Jenkins. However, he believes that this responsibility brings out the best in him.

“His passion for playing rugby is undeniable; he revels in its competitive nature,” said Baxter appreciatively. “Jenkins wears his heart on his sleeve and doesn’t tolerate foolishness from anyone.”

Baxter continued, “Watching him on the field, I can’t help but think that he embodies the qualities of an ideal rugby captain. He inspires his teammates to give their all, work hard, and strive for excellence.”

“Jenkins keeps things simple for himself; sometimes simplicity is the key,” Baxter added thoughtfully. “There’s no need for complex calculations when it comes to playing rugby – they’re all out there because they love the game. Let’s go out and do it well, just like Daf does.”

The remarkable leadership exhibited by Jenkins serves as a testament to his character and sets a strong example for other players in the squad.
