Fastorslow Withdraws from Savills Chase Due to Testing Ground Conditions

In an unexpected turn of events, Fastorslow will no longer be participating in the highly anticipated Savills Chase at Leopardstown. The decision comes as a result of the challenging ground conditions caused by heavy rainfall.

Martin Brassil’s charge was all set to face off against fellow staying heavyweights Galopin des Champs and Gerri Colombe in what was expected to be a thrilling three-mile contest. However, with 11 millimetres of rain pouring down over the past 24 hours, the ground at Leopardstown has become soft, even reaching a soft to heavy state in certain places.

This drastic change prompted Brassil to reassess his running plans for Fastorslow. It is indeed disappointing news considering that Fastorslow would have met Galopin des Champs for the third consecutive time after previously emerging victorious in both the Punchestown Gold Cup last season and last month’s John Durkan Chase during their respective seasonal bows.

A Field Reduced with Envoi Allen Out Too

The withdrawal due to unfavorable ground conditions did not stop with Fastorslow alone. The Henry de Bromhead-trained Envoi Allen also had to pull out from the race. This goes hand in hand with Willie Mullins declaring Janidil a non-runner due to experiencing temperature issues. As a consequence, only eight competitors will now take part in this prestigious event.

Gerri Colombe Takes Over as Favorite

With recent developments surrounding withdrawals and changing track conditions, the betting market has seen a significant shift. Gerri Colombe, who has been garnering strong support from punters, is now leading the pack as the new favorite. At 12:45 pm, Gerri Colombe was priced at an attractive rate of 13/8, while Galopin des Champs trailed closely behind with odds of 7/4.
