FIA Calls in Haas Team Principal over Critical Remarks about F1 Stewards

Guenther Steiner summoned by stewards ahead of Spanish Grand Prix qualifying

Haas F1 Team Principal Guenther Steiner has been called to see the stewards at the Spanish Grand Prix following comments he made about inconsistent stewarding in Formula 1. Steiner had criticised a penalty given to Nico Hulkenberg for a collision during the Monaco Grand Prix, calling it unfair compared to other incidents that weren’t penalised.

The German was issued with a time penalty after colliding with AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly on lap one but Steiner argued that there were far worse situations during the race which received no punishment. He pointed out an incident between Nyck de Vries and Lando Norris in Miami which saw no penalties applied. Speaking ahead of this weekend’s race, Steiner voiced his frustration over what he sees as laymen making decisions that impact multi-million pound careers.

He suggested bringing in professionals who could provide more consistent and fair rulings. However, these remarks have landed him in hot water with the FIA. The governing body claims that three rules have potentially been breached: fraudulent conduct or anything prejudicial; words or actions causing moral injury or loss; misconduct towards officials involved in doping control.

This isn’t the first time Steiner has faced censure from authorities over his comments – back in 2019 he was fined for blaming a steward for Kevin Magnussen’s time penalty at Sochi. It remains to be seen how this latest development will affect Haas’ performance at this weekend’s race. Stay tuned for further sport news and updates as they happen.
