Fred Wright Breaks Through: Triumph at British National Road Championship Sets the Stage for Tour de France

Fred Wright Seals First Professional Victory at British National Road Championship

In a stunning performance, Fred Wright has won his first professional victory in the 2022 British National Road Championship.

The 24-year-old cyclist from England made an impressive late break to claim the title ahead of compatriot James Knox and Wales’ Stephen Williams. It was a grueling contest covering a distance of 189km.

Speaking after his win, Wright paid tribute to Gino Mader who recently passed away following a crash at Tour de Suisse earlier this month. He said that he had been racing with him on his mind.

Pfeiffer Georgi Wins Women’s Title for Second Time

In the women’s category of the championship, Pfeiffer Georgi from England won her second title after winning it previously in 2021. The Team TSM rider kicked during the final climb and comfortably crossed over the line after completing a tough race course spanning across132km.

Georgi expressed her delight over winning the race saying that it was unknown territory as she wasn’t sure if it would be too hard for her rider type but stayed focused on being in mix throughout and ultimately succeeded.

“I used my confidence from how I won Lincoln [in 2021] and wanted to test myself with one lap to go”, she said. “I wasn’t expecting to win Lincoln last year either so there was less pressure this time around.”

Geraint Thomas Skips Race to Focus on Vuelta a Espana

Welshman Geraint Thomas, who finished second in May’s Giro d’Italia, was expected to be the star of the championship but Ineos Grenadiers rider said he would skip this race and focus instead on the upcoming Vuelta a Espana taking place between 26 August and 17 September.

Cycling enthusiasts should take note as Wright gears up for Tour de France with Team Bahrain Victorious starting from July 1st until July 23rd. The young cyclist has expressed his desire for a stage win during the competition.

To sum it up, it is yet another exciting edition of British National Road Championship crowned with thrilling performances by Wright and Georgi. It sets an exciting precedent for future editions of this prestigious event.
