Frodon, a horse who achieved victory at the highest level on multiple occasions, has officially ended his racing career.

Paul Nicholls Announces Retirement of Frodon: A Remarkable Servant

In a stunning turn of events, Paul Nicholls has bid farewell to his beloved steed, Frodon. The veteran horse, hailed as both “fantastic” and a “wonderful servant,” competed in his final race at the King George VI Chase in Kempton.

Frodon’s illustrious career reached its pinnacle when he triumphed in the Boxing Day highlight of 2020 with jockey Bryony Frost. This memorable victory was one of many throughout his remarkable journey, accumulating an impressive total of 19 wins in a commendable 52-race campaign.

Bryony Frost played an integral role in Frodon’s success story, guiding him to victory in significant races such as the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham Festival in 2019 and the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal in 2021.

Despite giving a valiant effort and leading for a considerable distance during his latest pursuit for King George glory, Frodon ultimately succumbed to fatigue and finished last among five competitors on Tuesday. Recognizing that it is time to bid adieu to their cherished companion, Paul Nicholls announced Frodon’s retirement:

“Frodon ran admirably once again; however, age has taken its toll on his legs. Today, I am honored to declare that we have made the decision to retire him,” revealed Nicholls through his Betfair ‘Ditcheat Diary’.

“We shall not push him further; after all he has given us – triumphs at King Georges’, Ryanairs’, Festival handicaps – the list goes on.”

The esteemed trainer confirmed that Frodon will spend his well-deserved retirement alongside Frost and another former stablemate, Black Corton. Nicholls further expressed his gratitude towards Frodon’s exceptional service:

“Since the tender age of three, he has been an extraordinary asset and now shall enjoy a splendid home on Exmoor with Bryony. What an incredible horse he has been – I could only wish for more like him. He is departing this sport intact, knowing that Bryony will provide him with a forever home.”
