George Bartlett: Northamptonshire secure services of Somerset batsman with three-year contract

Northamptonshire signs three-year deal with rising star George Bartlett

In a surprising move ahead of the upcoming cricket season, Northamptonshire has secured the services of talented Somerset batter George Bartlett. The three-year contract is set to bolster Northamptonshire’s squad for the next few seasons.

Bartlett, who is only 25 years old but already boasts an impressive career record, has showcased his batting prowess by amassing nearly 3,500 runs across all formats. Among his notable achievements are eight first-class centuries that underline his potential as a future cricket star.

This signing marks Northants’ second addition for next year after securing Derbyshire paceman George Scrimshaw earlier in their quest to strengthen their team composition.

“George is another fantastic addition to our squad,” expressed John Sadler, head coach of Northants. “Having already achieved some remarkable numbers at this stage of his career, he joins us during what promises to be the prime years of his journey.”

Bartlett made his County Championship debut in 2017 and had an exceptional start by scoring an incredible knock of 179 against India’s under-19 team—an innings that surpassed Nasser Hussain’s long-standing record for the highest overseas score at youth level.

In subsequent matches and tournaments, Bartlett continued displaying immense talent and determination. He notched up his maiden first-class century soon after making his debut and followed it up this summer with two more outstanding centuries—121 against Middlesex at Lord’s and a splendid knock of 134 against Nottinghamshire at Taunton.

While he has been a regular member of Somerset’s 50-over side, Bartlett didn’t feature in the T20 Blast competition this season, highlighting his eagerness to explore new challenges and opportunities.

I’m thrilled to have the chance to contribute significantly to Northamptonshire Cricket Club,” Bartlett shared eagerly. “Playing across all three formats is an exciting prospect for me, and I am determined to bring success and glory to the team.”
