Jonbon takes the lead in a reshuffled field for the Clarence House Chase

Jonbon Leads the Charge in Clarence House Chase

The rearranged Clarence House Chase at Cheltenham promises to be an exciting spectacle, with six entries vying for glory. While all eyes will be on headline act Jonbon, defending champion Editeur Du Gite is hoping to make history repeat itself.

    A Clash of Titans

Nicky Henderson’s Tingle Creek hero started his campaign on a high note, clinching victory in the Shloer Chase at Prestbury Park last November. Originally scheduled to face old rival El Fabiolo at Ascot, fate had other plans as bad weather forced a rescheduling of the race to Cheltenham Festival Trials Day – just like when Editeur Du Gite emerged triumphant against Edwardstone and Energumene in an exhilarating contest twelve months ago.

This time around, there will be no Irish representation, as El Fabiolo wisely chooses to keep his powder dry and focus on the Dublin Chase at Leopardstown one week later. However, Jonbon is set to light up the Cotswolds with his presence.

    Hoping for Lightning Strikes Twice

Gary Moore has every hope of adding another win under Editeur Du Gite’s belt following his recent success in the Desert Orchid Chase over Christmas. Reflecting on last year’s triumph, Moore expresses optimism: “It would be nice wouldn’t it if lightning could strike twice? He seems in good order and is entitled to take his chance.”

“We’re not expecting to beat Jonbon,” continues Moore humbly. “But I do hope he puts up a strong showing – which I’m sure he will.”

    Strong Contenders

Dan Skelton’s Nube Negra, who finished ahead of Elixir De Nutz in their recent clash at Kempton, is ready to give it another shot. Both horses are set to reoppose in the Grade One Clarence House Chase.

Venetia Williams’ Funambule Sivola, despite a lackluster season so far, has shown promise with a second-place finish in the Champion Chase behind Energumene last year and represents a team on top form.

Completing the entries is Richard Hobson’s December Gold Cup victor Fugitif. However, Fugitif also holds an engagement in the £100,000 Paddy Power Cheltenham Countdown Podcast Handicap Chase on the same card.
