Knappers Hill Shines in Novices’ Chase

In an extraordinary display of skill and precision, Knappers Hill secured a well-deserved victory in the Boodles “Rising Stars” Novices’ Chase at Wincanton. After facing defeat on his chasing debut, this talented gelding showcased his true potential with a flawless round of jumping.

Trained by the remarkable Paul Nicholls, Knappers Hill’s success further solidified Nicholls’ outstanding record in this race. The impressive performance led to Betfair slashing Knappers Hill’s odds from 33-1 to 20-1 for the Turners Novices’ Chase at the upcoming Cheltenham Festival.

Dressed in the renowned colors of Paul Barber, who was both Nicholls’ late landlord and close friend, Knappers Hill is now owned by Barber’s sons Chris and Giles along with Paul Vogt. This victory held special significance as it honored their late father’s memory.

Nicholls expressed his emotions after the race: “I’m quite moved because I know how much Paul would have loved that win. He had such a deep affection for this horse and visited him every day. To see him triumph wearing Paul’s colors would have brought immense joy to his heart.”

Blackjack Magic Triumphs in Badger Beer Handicap Chase

The Badger Beer Handicap Chase witnessed an exhilarating battle between Blackjack Magic and Threeunderthrufive, with Blackjack Magic emerging victorious after displaying tremendous courage throughout the race.

Trained by Anthony Honeyball, this eight-year-old gelding demonstrated great determination under the expert guidance of jockey Rex Dingle. Positioned perfectly in the early stages of the race, Blackjack Magic closely trailed The Big Breakaway, who had taken an early lead.

As they approached the final stretch and faced the last few fences, Threeunderthrufive seemed to pose a formidable challenge. However, it was Blackjack Magic who exhibited exceptional jumping skills and surged ahead with impeccable precision. With each stride bringing them closer to victory, Blackjack Magic crossed the finish line three lengths ahead of their rival.

The defending champions Bryony Frost and Frodon were left trailing behind in third place, finishing 14 lengths behind the front two contenders.

Honeyball shared his thoughts on this unexpected triumph: “We hadn’t specifically targeted this race for him initially as he was more of an afterthought compared to our other stablemates. But being a novice stepping forward, we felt he had a chance.”

This win provided a significant boost for Honeyball’s team and showcased Blackjack Magic’s prowess on soft and heavy ground – conditions that have always favored him.”
