Lille prohibits supporters from attending Marseille game following Lyon bus assault

Safety concerns lead to travel ban for Lille fans ahead of Marseille clash

Lille Football Club has announced that their fans will not be allowed to travel to Marseille due to safety fears. This decision comes in the wake of an attack on Lyon’s team bus, which has raised concerns about the security surrounding upcoming matches.

Marseille is scheduled to host Lille in a Ligue 1 match on Saturday, but after Lyon’s team bus was targeted before their game against Marseille, authorities have taken precautionary measures by banning away supporters from attending.

Lyon manager Fabio Grosso was seriously injured during the attack when he was struck by a projectile. The incident led French sports minister Amelie Oudea-Castera to announce seven arrests had been made in connection with the violence directed towards Lyon supporters.

In response, Lille issued a statement expressing their understanding of the decision, stating: “If the authorities finally decided this morning that they would not be able to guarantee the safety of our 250 loyal supporters who had planned on traveling to Marseille, we must respect and protect them from any potential trouble.”

The French League (LFP) confirmed that the postponed match between Marseille and Lyon has been rescheduled for December 6th; however, no specific venue has been determined at this time.

The recent incidents have highlighted ongoing issues with fan violence and hooliganism in football. It is crucial for authorities and clubs alike to work together diligently in order ensure player and fan safety remains paramount throughout all fixtures.
