Luxembourg’s absence will be felt in the upcoming Champion Stakes

Aidan O’Brien Forced to Rule Out Luxembourg from Qipco Champion Stakes

In a surprising turn of events, renowned trainer Aidan O’Brien has made the difficult decision to withdraw Luxembourg from the highly anticipated Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot on October 21. This news comes as a disappointment for racing enthusiasts who were eagerly awaiting the four-year-old’s performance in yet another Group One race.

Luxembourg has been an impressive contender throughout his career, securing victories in each of his three seasons on the track. His triumph over Bay Bridge in the Tattersalls Gold Cup showcased his exceptional talent earlier this year. However, subsequent races revealed some challenges for the talented colt.

The Prince of Wales’s Stakes saw him finish second behind Mostahdaf, while he struggled to maintain pace over a mile and a half during the King George. In his most recent appearance at the Irish Champion Stakes, Luxembourg gave stablemate Auguste Rodin quite a scare but ultimately fell short by just half a length.

With Champions Day serving as their ultimate goal this season, O’Brien and his team had high hopes for Luxembourg’s participation in the prestigious event. Unfortunately, fate had other plans as a foot injury surfaced, preventing him from competing against top-class rivals at Ascot.

During an interview at Curragh Racecourse on Thursday, O’Brien expressed his regret: “Luxembourg doesn’t run in the Champion Stakes as he has encountered a slight foot problem that requires attention.” The setback is undoubtedly disappointing for both connections and fans alike.
