Marquez: Departing Honda MotoGP team was a mutually beneficial choice

Honda and Marquez Set to Part Ways

In a surprising turn of events, Honda has announced that they will be parting ways with Marc Marquez at the end of the 2023 campaign. This announcement comes following Marquez’s sole podium finish of the season at the Japanese Grand Prix. Despite having one year left on his contract, both parties have mutually agreed to move on.

The decision for Marquez’s next move is equally unexpected. He will be racing for Gresini on a year-old Ducati starting from next year. His debut on the bike during the Valencia test showed promising results as he finished fourth fastest.

A Smooth Exit for Both Parties

Marquez’s departure from Honda after spending 11 successful years together and winning six world titles may seem perplexing at first glance. However, according to him, it was an amicable decision that benefits both sides.

“Our relationship with Honda has always been very honest, super clean and very good,” said Marquez when asked about the smoothness of his exit. “And I think that in this decision right now for next year, it’s also a win-win decision.”

The move allows Marquez to join a team riding a leading championship bike and reignite his competitiveness.
