Marquez’s Honda MotoGP Departure Treated as Championship Battle

Marquez Ends Honda Era on a Bittersweet Note

The motorsport world was filled with mixed emotions as eight-time world champion Marc Marquez bid farewell to his longstanding partnership with Honda after an illustrious 11-year journey together. Having secured six premier class titles under the Japanese marque’s banner, Marquez took part in his final round at Valencia before preparing for his new venture with Gresini Ducati next year.

In what turned out to be a rollercoaster weekend for Marquez and his fans, there were both highs and lows. Despite enduring a crash during the grand prix on lap six after an overzealous move by Pramac’s Jorge Martin at Turn 4, Marquez managed to showcase his resilience and determination by securing a podium finish in the sprint race prior to that.

“I approached the weekend like I was fighting for the championship,” admitted Marquez when reflecting upon his performance. “I was fully concentrated throughout all the laps, races, and practices. Yesterday we achieved the podium.”

Looking back at the incident that ended his final race prematurely, Marquez acknowledged Martin’s optimism but held no ill feelings towards him. Instead of dwelling on their collision, he emphasized that it did not overshadow the immense pride he felt about concluding this chapter of his career alongside Honda.

“Jorge was a bit too optimistic in that overtaking maneuver,” shared Marquez understandingly. “But I comprehend where he was coming from; he had been fixated on chasing down Francesco Bagnaia, who was leading the race. He has already apologized to me, and I won’t hold it against him.”

While Marquez’s Honda farewell did not end as he had envisioned, with injuries sustained from the crash affecting his head, ankle, and neck, he remained grateful that nothing was broken. His focus now shifts towards recovering in time for testing on Tuesday.

“I would like to be better and start off on a stronger note during Tuesday’s testing,” expressed Marquez optimistically. “This impact was significant due to its effect on my head and ankle; however, no bones were fractured – that is what matters most.”

As one chapter closes for Marquez with Honda, another awaits him with Gresini Ducati. Despite the unexpected turn of events during his final round together with Honda, Marquez cherished the emotional bond shared between himself and the team throughout their journey.

“We bid our farewells in a memorable way. It wasn’t just an ordinary ‘goodbye,’ but more of a ‘see you later’ event,” reflected Marquez fondly upon concluding his weekend at Valencia. “The camaraderie amongst all the members of Team Honda made this experience truly remarkable.”
