Mateo Carreras: Newcastle winger set to make move to Bayonne after current season concludes

Argentinian Winger Mateo Carreras to Leave Newcastle Falcons for French Top-14 Club Bayonne

In a surprising turn of events, Argentina’s talented winger Mateo Carreras has announced his departure from Newcastle Falcons at the end of the season. This move will see him joining the prestigious French Top-14 club, Bayonne.

Carreras has spent three successful seasons at Kingston Park and has established himself as a key player for the Falcons. With an impressive record of scoring 16 tries in 37 appearances, it is no wonder that he attracted attention from other clubs.

The 23-year-old winger also boasts an international career with Los Pumas, earning himself 17 caps and showcasing his skills on the world stage during the World Cup where he scored three incredible tries.

While Carreras had a stellar performance last season in the Premiership, grabbing an impressive total of 13 tries and securing second place behind Harlequins’ Cadan Murley who scored an astonishing 15 times, this season hasn’t been as fruitful due to his involvement in Argentina’s journey to the semi-finals in France.

Newcastle Falcons currently find themselves at rock bottom in the Premiership standings with five defeats out of five matches played so far this season. Losing such a fantastic player like Carreras certainly adds salt to their wounds.

Falcons head coach Alex Codling expressed disappointment about losing such top talent but acknowledged Carreras’ professionalism throughout negotiations and remained optimistic about what he can contribute for the rest of this season: “Mateo still has a massive role to play for the Falcons between now and the end of the season, and I have no doubt that he will approach it with his usual diligence and positivity.”
