Nottinghamshire Secure Three-Game Red-Ball Deal with New Zealand Batsman, Will Young

Nottinghamshire Sign Will Young for County Championship Matches

In a surprising move, Nottinghamshire has secured the services of New Zealand batter Will Young on a short-term contract to play three matches in the highly anticipated County Championship this month.

The experienced 30-year-old will be seen in action against defending champions and current leaders Surrey at The Oval, as well as clashes with Hampshire and Kent at Trent Bridge. It is an exciting addition to Nottinghamshire’s batting group, according to head coach Peter Moores.

Currently sitting seventh in Division One of the Championship with six games remaining, Nottinghamshire clearly recognizes the importance of these next few fixtures. They hope that Young’s previous experiences playing county cricket will bring success during this crucial period.

This won’t be Young’s first rodeo on English soil; he previously had stints with Durham in 2021 and Northamptonshire last summer. In fact, his stay at Northamptonshire saw him take up the captaincy for the latter half of his tenure.

    A Vast International Experience

A seasoned player who has represented New Zealand on numerous occasions across all formats, including featuring in thirteen Test matches and accumulating over 1,000 runs overall; Will Young brings incredible knowledge and expertise to Notts’ lineup.

    The Upcoming Matches

Young is set to make his debut for Nottinghamshire when they face Surrey on Monday, July 10th. Following that match-up, he will go head-to-head against Hampshire starting from Wednesday, July 19th, and conclude his stint against Kent beginning Tuesday, July 25th.
