Oval Invincibles triumph over London Spirit thanks to Sunil Narine’s exceptional performance in The Hundred 2023

Oval Invincibles Secure Thrilling Victory in The Hundred Opener

Sunil Narine displayed his bowling brilliance by recording figures of 2-14 and then showcased his batting prowess with a vital contribution of 13 runs off just five deliveries to secure a nail-biting three-wicket win for the Oval Invincibles over London Spirit in their opening match of The Hundred.

London Spirit, captained by Adam Rossington (39) and Matthew Wade (37), posted a competitive total of 131 at Lord’s thanks to some resilient batting. However, Nathan Sowter’s impressive spell saw him finish with figures of 3-34.

In response, the Oval Invincibles stumbled early on, finding themselves struggling at 24-3. Nevertheless, Sam Curran (34) and Sam Billings (25) stepped up to rebuild the innings and keep their team’s hopes alive.

It was Sunil Narine who ultimately stole the show as he launched a six and a four off Nathan Ellis’ bowling in the final stages of the game to seal victory for his side.

    A Masterclass from Sunil Narine

The man-of-the-match, Sunil Narine spoke exclusively to us about his incredible performance: “Coming in towards the end is always challenging. Cricket can be unpredictable; being on the winning side gives you confidence and momentum. I remained composed and focused on making contact with every delivery.”

Narine further added: “Making contact can yield unexpected results. A missed ball puts undue pressure on the batsman. I’ve observed Nathan Ellis closely for many years, and he has always been confident in his slower deliveries. His mindset at the start of his run-up remains an enigma.”

When asked about his bowling approach, Narine explained: “I keep it simple with my bowling technique. Wickets will come naturally if I stick to my strengths. Throughout my career, I have aimed to bowl stump-to-stump consistently, forcing the batsmen to make contact with every ball thrown at them.”
