Pep Guardiola: Manchester City Manager Claims Financial Charges Against Club Differ Significantly from Everton Situation

Pep Guardiola addresses the contrasting nature of Manchester City and Everton’s financial charges

In a recent press conference, Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, has emphasized that the 115 financial charges faced by his club in the Premier League are “completely different” from Everton’s points deduction case. He firmly stated that these two instances cannot be compared.

The Toffees were handed a hefty 10-point deduction after being found guilty of breaching financial rules. However, when asked about any concerns regarding potential consequences for Manchester City following Everton’s punishment, Guardiola promptly dismissed any similarities between the cases: “It’s two different cases. It’s not the same – honestly.”

Speaking ahead of their highly anticipated clash against Liverpool at Etihad Stadium on Saturday (12:30 GMT), Guardiola further explained, “I spoke with my associates and they assured me that it is completely distinct. Our situation is more complex due to 115 breaches. So we must wait patiently until both sides present their respective cases before a verdict is reached.”

When questioned about whether he would contemplate leaving Manchester City if the club were to face severe penalties, Guardiola responded decisively: “I will wait and see what happens before making any decisions. Whether we remain in our current league or find ourselves in League One does not impact my commitment to this club.” He even added provocatively, “There may be a greater chance of me staying if we end up in League One than winning the Champions League.”

Manchester City remains as one of only two clubs charged by the Premier League for financial breaches. The allegations suggest that they violated regulations over 100 times between 2009 and 2018. While Everton’s case emerged after City’s, the latter is still under investigation.

Addressing the accusations leveled against his club, Guardiola stressed their disagreement with the claims: “We strongly refute these allegations made against us. We will indeed defend ourselves vigorously during this process. Once a resolution is reached, I will serve as a spokesperson for my club.”
