Promoter Ben Shalom hints at a potential rematch between Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr in the later part of August.

The Frustrating Delay of Liam Smith’s Rematch with Chris Eubank Jr

Promoter Ben Shalom expresses hope that the much-awaited rematch between British boxers, Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr, will finally take place in late August or early September. The said event was initially scheduled on July 1 at the AO Arena in Manchester but had been postponed due to a minor injury suffered by Smith.

Smith previously won over Eubank Jr through a stunning stoppage victory last January. However, the delay has caused some concerns as it was initially expected to only be for a couple of weeks. Shalom remains optimistic but is still waiting for final confirmation from Smith before they proceed with setting up another schedule.

A Fight That Can’t Keep Waiting Forever

It’s frustrating for him as much as anyone,” Shalom told Sky Sports News on Monday. “But we can’t keep Chris Eubank Jr waiting forever.”

Last week, he met Kalle Sauerland of Team Sauerland (Eubank Jr’s promoter) to discuss possible dates for the fight rescheduling. According to Shalom, they expect to finalize everything by late August or early September.

Rumors About A Potential Benn Vs. Eubank Matchup?

There were rumors going around that instead of pushing through with his rematch against Smith this year, former IBO super-middleweight champion Christopher Livingstone “Chris” Eubanks might pursue Conor Nigel Benn for his next bout. However, Shalom added: “I know there are reports about things going on in the boxing world that we’re not a part of. But our understanding, as of last week, is the rematch will happen and it has just been very, very frustrating for both fighters.”

    Endless Delays

“We hoped to be fit for July, then early August, now end of August,” he added. From speaking to Liam and his team, we’ll make sure that before the date is announced, he’s absolutely 100 per cent.” Despite this delay, Franchon Crews-Dezurn and Savannah Marshall headline Saturday’s event on July 1 live on Bewinner site while Natasha Jonas aims to become a two-weight world champion against Kandi Wyatt. Also fighting at AO Arena will be rising star Ben Whittaker along with Mark Heffron taking on Zak Chelli.
