Proven Enhancers: Fact To File and Inthepocket Impress in Their First Chase Appearances

Bright Future Awaits Inthepocket and Fact To File over Fences

Connections of Inthepocket and Fact To File are filled with confidence following their impressive chasing debuts at Navan. Both novices, owned by JP McManus, showcased their high-class potential last season and are expected to excel in the upcoming campaign.

Inthepocket faced a familiar opponent from his hurdling days, but was unable to overcome the challenge posed by Facile Vega. Meanwhile, Fact To File encountered a rejuvenated American Mike on his first chase outing after a year spent in bumpers.

“We were pleased with both horses’ performances,” said Frank Berry, racing manager for McManus. “They faced tough competition and will surely learn from these outings.”

The duo will continue to compete in novice events as they seek their first victory over fences. Berry acknowledged the depth in Irish novice chasing ranks but remains optimistic about future opportunities later in the season.

“We were satisfied with their efforts so far and we’ll decide on their next steps in a couple of weeks,” Berry explained. “There are always competitive beginners’ chases available where they can gain more experience.”

In terms of distance, there seems to be no rush for Inthepocket’s trainer Henry de Bromhead to extend beyond two miles. Despite achieving success over further distances previously, sticking to shorter races currently appears favorable for this talented horse.

Fact To File fell just short of delivering another Champion Bumper victory for trainer Willie Mullins during his time at Prestbury Park last spring. He entered his chasing debut as the favorite over two-and-a-half miles, a distance he excelled at during his bumper season. However, dropping back to two miles wouldn’t be an issue according to Berry.

“He seems comfortable with both distances; it’s simply a matter of finding suitable races for them,” Berry added. “There are plenty of competitive events available where they can continue showcasing their abilities.”
