Quotes and Reactions from the Fillies’ Mile

Ollie Sangster’s First Group One Runner Aims for Redemption in the bet365 Fillies’ Mile

The highly anticipated bet365 Fillies’ Mile will mark a significant milestone for trainer Ollie Sangster as he saddles his first-ever Group One runner, Shuwari. The talented filly, sired by New Bay, showcased her potential early on with an impressive victory over Fallen Angel in Listed company at Sandown.

Despite suffering her first defeat to Carla’s Way in the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket, Shuwari demonstrated great promise by making steady progress from a rear position. Now stepping up to a mile distance, Sangster is confident that she will excel and bounce back stronger than ever.

Sangster expressed his excitement about the upcoming race stating, “Shuwari ran a fantastic race last time out considering the circumstances. She has recovered well since then and I am eagerly looking forward to Friday. With her relaxed and adaptable nature, I don’t anticipate any issues with the increased trip.”

Leading the charge alongside Shuwari is Aidan O’Brien’s Ylang Ylang who finished third behind Shuwari and Carla’s Way in the Rockfel Stakes. Despite facing setbacks in recent outings after winning her first two races impressively, jockey Ryan Moore remains optimistic about Ylang Ylang’s chances.

“Ylang Ylang struggled on quick ground over seven furlongs last time out but moving up to a mile should suit her better,” explained Moore confidently. “With form on soft ground and if she returns to top form shown at Leopardstown previously, she could be considered as one of the main contenders for this prestigious title.”

Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O’Brien also fields stablemate Brilliant alongside Ylang Ylang to bolster their chances in the race. Adding to the Irish challenge is Noel Meade’s Caught U Looking, who impressed with a half-length victory in the Weld Park Stakes last month.

Meade believes that Caught U Looking, sired by Harzand, will benefit from stepping up in distance as her sire was known for his prowess over longer distances. With an eye on next year’s races, Meade envisions her excelling at a mile and beyond. Although concerned about very fast ground conditions, he remains hopeful for success if rain arrives to soften the track.

Frankie Dettori, renowned for his remarkable record of seven wins in this race, teams up with Michael Bell’s Ambiente Amigo. The young colt has shown promise by winning minor races at Lingfield but faces a significant step up in class for this elite event.

Ralph Beckett enters two strong contenders – Classical Song and Seaward – both coming off impressive victories at Sandown and Ascot respectively. Rossa Ryan eagerly anticipates partnering Classical Song and praises her genuine ability as she aims to conquer new heights.

The final contender completing the field is See The Fire trained by Andrew Balding. After finishing runner-up in the May Hill Stakes, See The Fire seeks redemption while aiming to make her mark on this prestigious stage.
