Stephen Williams: Welsh cyclist agrees to two-year contract extension with Israel-Premier Tech

Welsh Cyclist Stephen Williams Extends Contract with Israel-Premier Tech

In a surprising turn of events, Welsh cyclist Stephen Williams has signed a two-year contract extension with the renowned team Israel-Premier Tech (IPT). This move comes as a relief for the talented rider after facing setbacks in his career.

At just 27 years old, Williams has already made an impact in the cycling world. His recent victory at August’s Arctic Race of Norway marked his second stage-race win. It’s worth noting that he overcame various challenges to reach this point.

The former Bahrain-Victorious rider joined IPT last year under unexpected circumstances, following the dissolution of another team. However, this unforeseen change turned out to be a blessing in disguise for him.

“I settled in very well at IPT as I knew many riders on the team prior to signing,” expressed Williams. “The camaraderie among us quickly made me feel at home and part of something special.”

This extension is particularly meaningful for the Welshman as it signifies his determination to bounce back from an arduous knee injury that derailed his career for eighteen months.

In spite of these challenges, Williams managed to make remarkable comebacks by winning stages and securing overall victories at prestigious races like Cro Race and Tour de Suisse.

Prior to joining IPT, he was set to join forces with Mark Cavendish under B&B Hotels but encountered difficulties when the project collapsed. This turn of events presented a turning point in his career, leading him to where he is today.

Williams recently completed his first Grand Tour, the Giro d’Italia, finishing 93rd overall. His success continued as he clinched third place at the British Road Race Championships before securing victory in Norway.

“I’m delighted with my current situation and performing well within an excellent environment that allows me to progress and compete in prominent races worldwide,” shared Williams enthusiastically.

Looking ahead, Williams aims to continue improving his performance by achieving more consistent wins and making a significant impact on IPT’s future endeavors. With his talent and determination, there’s no doubt that he will reach new heights in stage races and Grand Tours.

IPT Sports Manager Excited for Future Collaborations

Sports Manager Rik Verbrugghe expressed great satisfaction with extending Williams’ contract: “Stevie is a gifted cyclist with immense potential. Moreover, he brings exceptional camaraderie to our team dynamic.”

Verbrugghe highlighted William’s crucial role within their climbing group which significantly contributed to Mike Woods’ victory at Occitanie race. Witnessing Williams achieve personal success after working tirelessly for the team throughout the season was truly gratifying for all involved at IPT.

We firmly believe that Stevie has yet to reach his full potential,” said Verbrugghe eagerly. “In partnership with him over the next few years, we are excited about discovering what he can truly accomplish in both stage races and Grand Tours.
