The Corach Rambler team ponders their next strategic step

Corach Rambler’s Next Move: Betfair Chase or Coral Gold Cup?

The racing world is abuzz with speculation about the next move for Corach Rambler following his disappointing reappearance at Kelso on Saturday. After a lackluster performance in the Edinburgh Gin Chase, where he finished last of five runners, trainer Lucinda Russell is considering two options for her dual Cheltenham Festival and Aintree victor – the prestigious Betfair Chase or the exciting Coral Gold Cup.

Despite his underwhelming display at Kelso, there are indications that Corach Rambler might step up to Grade One level in the upcoming Betfair Chase if conditions permit. The ground will be a crucial factor in determining whether he heads to Merseyside for this high-profile event.

Peter Scudamore, assistant to trainer Lucinda Russell and also Corach Rambler’s regular work rider, has proposed an alternative plan. He suggests that Newbury’s Coral Gold Cup could be an attractive option for Corach if conditions are more favorable than they were at Kelso.

In light of recent events, Scudamore commented: “Corach seems fine; as happy as anything. However, we wouldn’t risk running him on such soft ground again. We’ve discussed it extensively and concluded that if the ground isn’t too soft, he’ll line up for the Betfair Chase. Otherwise, our focus will shift towards targeting the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury.”

Scudamore believes that Corach Rambler simply needed the run at Kelso and struggled due to unsuitable ground conditions. He attributes the lackluster performance to a combination of factors.

The decision on Corach Rambler’s next race will depend on several variables, including weather and track conditions. Racing enthusiasts eagerly await news about his final destination – whether it be the prestigious Betfair Chase or the promising Coral Gold Cup.
