France’s Gabrielle Vernier Named Women’s Six Nations Player of the Championship
In the recently concluded Women’s Six Nations tournament, France center Gabrielle Vernier was named player of the championship. The 25-year-old received an overwhelming majority of fan votes outsmarting her closest contenders; Holly Aitchison and Marlie Packer from England as well as Wales’ rising star Sisilia Tuipulotu.
Vernier played in every match of the tournament for Les Bleues and left her mark by scoring five tries and providing two assists throughout. After receiving the award, she said it was a “huge honor” that belonged to all members of her team.
Tournament sponsor TikTok also announced its team of the championship with Vernier joining forces with fellow French players Marine Menager and Pauline Bourdon in their XV lineup. England dominates with nine players featuring on this list after winning a fifth consecutive title in a Grand Slam decider against France at Twickenham.
The Red Roses captain Marlie Packer who is also leading try scorer made it onto this list along with Abby Dow whose solo effort against Wales earned him recognition for Try Of The Championship. Meanwhile, Tuipulotu remains Wales’ only representative having made his first-ever start during this year’s edition where he won back-to-back player awards versus Ireland and Scotland while scoring four tries.
