Thursday’s Royal Ascot: Memorable Quotes from Key Figures

The Norfolk Stakes and Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot

Excitement is in the air as Royal Ascot approaches its third day, with two prominent Group Two races on the cards – the Norfolk Stakes and Ribblesdale Stakes. The former promises a thrilling clash between Elite Status and American Rascal, while the latter features unbeaten Al Asifah.

American Rascal Ready to Take on Elite Status

Trainer Wesley Ward has high hopes for his charge American Rascal in the Norfolk Stakes. Despite facing stiff competition from Karl Burke’s Elite Status, who has been impressive ever since his debut at Doncaster, Ward believes his colt can give him a run for his money.

American Rascal comes from an esteemed pedigree as Lady Aurelia’s son; she was a dual winner at Royal Ascot under Ward’s tutelage. His recent performance on dirt at Keeneland showcased an incredible turn of speed that he is sure to bring with him on Thursday when he blazes out of stall one.

Elite Status Aims to Maintain Unbeaten Record

Burke’s stable star has been widely tipped as a future champion after dominating both Doncaster and Sandown. However, despite being confident about his horse’s chances, Burke understands that anything can happen in horse racing.

“If he gets luck in running,” said Burke, “for me he’s the one they’ve got to beat.”

No Nay Mets (George Weaver/Frankie Dettori), Noche Magica (Paddy Twomey), Devious (Donnacha O’Brien) and His Majesty (Aidan O’Brien) complete the five-strong field in what promises to be a thrilling contest.

Al Asifah Seeks to Maintain Perfect Record

The Ribblesdale Stakes features an unbeaten filly, Al Asifah, trained by John and Thady Gosden. The filly has been impressive in both of her starts at Haydock and Goodwood respectively.

“In everyone’s opinion she is a filly of great potential,” said racing manager Angus Gold, “but it is a big step up.”

Infinite Cosmos (Sir Michael Stoute) and Bluestocking (Ralph Beckett) are also expected to provide stiff competition for Al Asifah in what should be an exciting race.
