Unexpected Victory for Readin Tommy Wrong at Lawlor’s of Naas

Lawlor’s Of Naas Novice Hurdle: Readin Tommy Wrong Surprises with Mullins One-Two-Three

In a stunning turn of events, Readin Tommy Wrong emerged as the unexpected victor in the highly anticipated Lawlor’s Of Naas Novice Hurdle. Despite being undefeated under rules, the six-year-old was considered an underdog amongst Willie Mullins’ formidable contenders consisting of Ile Atlantique, Chapeau De Soleil, and Lecky Watson.

Ridden skillfully by Daryl Jacob, Readin Tommy Wrong patiently bided his time at the rear of the field. However, he rapidly gained ground two furlongs from home, defying odds at 16-1. As he approached the finish line, he engaged in a fierce battle with favorite Ile Atlantique (6-4), ultimately outlasting him to secure victory. Completing an extraordinary achievement for Willie Mullins and his team, Lecky Watson (14-1) claimed third place, resulting in a remarkable one-two-three finish for their camp.

Mullins expressed his satisfaction stating that “They are a nice bunch of horses coming along and Daryl was very good on Readin Tommy Wrong. He gave him a very cute ride and let the main protagonists fight it out before taking it off them in the end.” He further praised Readin Tommy Wrong’s bravery and highlighted how his success contributes positively to Irish jump breeding.

Mullins highlighted that Readin Tommy Wrong now becomes a strong contender for the top prizes in the upcoming spring season. This exceptional horse is believed to be an ideal candidate for Ballymore (now known as the Baring Bingham Novices’ Hurdle), showcasing consistent improvement and unwavering determination.

Ile Atlantique, who performed impeccably throughout the race according to Paul, played a vital role by leading from start to finish. However, Daryl’s strategic maneuvering ensured victory as he tactfully utilized Ile Atlantique’s efforts and ultimately outpaced him in the final strides of this exhilarating contest.

Mullins expressed his delight with their outstanding performance declaring, “I felt before the race that it was the top novice hurdle run in Ireland or England over the whole Christmas period, so I’m very happy they have run so well.”
