Booth further elaborates on Turner’s personality, “As the head boy of our school and an academic achiever with six or seven As to his name, he remained incredibly humble and composed. Being an only child, initially, his parents were hesitant about him pursuing cricket as a career in England.

Despite their reservations – his father being a lawyer and mother running a shoe company – it took extensive persuasion to convince them to let John pursue both cricket and studies at Exeter University.”

“Unlike some parents who push their children into sports careers,” Booth adds,

“John’s passion was self-driven. He always harbored immense determination towards making it big in cricket. In fact, out of all English bowlers, Stuart Broad held a special place in his heart; he derived inspiration from Broad’s bowling style.”

“Even during those early years at school when he was still small-statured,” reflects Benkenstein thoughtfully,

“Turner possessed exceptional technique that would eventually become even more refined as he grew older.

His action was remarkably fluid with wristwork that allowed him to generate extra spin on the ball. These fundamentals made any coach excited about working with him.
