US Open: Skupski and Koolhof Suffer Third-Round Defeat in Men’s Doubles

In an unexpected turn of events at the US Open, Britain’s Neal Skupski and Dutch partner Wesley Koolhof faced defeat in the third round of the men’s doubles. The top-seeded duo, known for their Wimbledon triumph earlier this year, were outplayed by American pair Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow.

The match began with both teams struggling to create any break points. However, it was the home favorites who managed to secure a win in the tie-breaker of the first set. Despite missing several opportunities to break Lammons’ serve during the second set, Skupski and Koolhof found themselves on the receiving end of a late break that ultimately sealed their fate.

Lammons and Withrow now advance to face India’s Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden from Australia in the next round. As for Skupski, his defeat alongside Jack Draper’s loss in singles leaves Joe Salisbury as Britain’s sole representative left standing at this year’s US Open.

Salisbury will team up with Rajeev Ram, defending champions from last year’s tournament held in New York City. Together they will take on Argentina’s Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni in what promises to be an exciting fourth-round clash scheduled for Tuesday.
