Veteran jockey Dettori hailed by trainer Gosden after triumphant Royal Ascot finale

Farewell Season for Frankie Dettori at Royal Ascot

The renowned jockey, Frankie Dettori, is set to retire soon. But before that happens, he has one final season to show his skills in the saddle, and what better way than to do it at the prestigious Royal Ascot event? His close friend and trainer John Gosden will be supporting him throughout this long farewell tour.

A Winning Streak at Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot holds a special place in Dettori’s heart as it was where he achieved his “Magnificent Seven” feat in 1996. He continued his winning streak with a Gold Cup and three more victories across various races during the years. In total, he has won 81 career victories at this esteemed meet.

Gosden understands how much this week means to the veteran rider as he wants to go out on top rather than becoming an unwanted figure in the sport. Victory in both Coronation Cup and Oaks already put him under the spotlight which only got brighter when he added another win riding Courage Mon Ami.

    Behind-the-Scenes Partnership with Gosden

Dettori’s flamboyant style may have drawn attention over time but what many don’t realize is how integral he has been behind-the-scenes for trainers like John Gosden and his son Thady who will eventually take over Clarehaven stable from him.

Gosden reminisces about their partnership spanning almost three decades now starting from their early days together when Dettori had just shaved off his head making Gosden mistake him for someone else! From thereon they shared several highs including being champion jockeys together in three years, the Godolphin job, and a Breeders’ Cup Classic win with Raven’s Pass in 2008.

When things went sour for Dettori after he failed a drug test in France that resulted in his six-month suspension, Gosden was there to support him. Even during Dettori’s annus horribilis when he had only won 16 races throughout the year of 2013, Gosden believed in his abilities and stood by him.

The Crown Jewel – Gold Cup

If there is one race that defines Frankie Dettori as a jockey it is the Royal Ascot Gold Cup which he has won eight times already. He picked up another nine-day careless riding ban aboard King and Queen’s Saga at Wolferton Stakes but hopes to make amends with this ninth victory at Royal Ascot before bidding adieu to his racing career.

Dettori’s story is not just about highs and lows but also about perseverance. Throughout everything, John Gosden has been a constant pillar of support who knows how talented his friend truly is.
