Via Sistina Dominates in the Exciting Pretty Polly Stakes

Via Sistina Shines in Group One Triumph at the Curragh

The British raiders dominated the Yulong Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh, with Via Sistina leading home a one-two for trainer George Boughey. The five-year-old mare, ridden by Jamie Spencer, arrived in Ireland as the favorite after impressive wins at Newmarket and Newcastle.

    Early Stages and Strategic Riding

Jamie Spencer demonstrated brilliant strategic riding aboard Via Sistina. Rather than rushing to take an early lead, he kept her anchored alongside fellow raider Stay Alert. Trevaunance and Above The Curve led the field from the start.

    A Late Surge to Victory

As they straightened for home, both Stay Alert and Via Sistina began their move towards the front of the pack. However, it was Via Sistina who made an eyecatching surge when shown daylight by Spencer. Despite hanging right and causing some interference along the way, she crossed the line with a comfortable two-length advantage over Stay Alert.

    Stewards’ Inquiry but Unaltered Result

Following some interference during her challenge for victory, a stewards’ inquiry was called. However, no alteration was made to the result as Via Sistina’s superiority remained unquestionable. This victory marked not only George Boughey’s first win in Ireland but also Via Sistina’s first triumph at Group One level.

    Future Options Open Up

The future looks bright for Via Sistina, with several options available. Coral has slashed the odds to 3-1 from 7-1 for her to compete in the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Paddy Power offers quotes of 5-2 from 4-1 for a potential run in Newmarket’s Falmouth Stakes and also includes odds of 10-1 for the Yorkshire Oaks.

    Delighted Owner Looks Ahead

Owner Stephen Hillen expressed his delight with Via Sistina’s performance, stating that such victories are rare. He praised Jamie Spencer’s skillful ride and noted that when she is at her best, Via Sistina is simply superior to her competitors. Regarding future plans, Hillen mentioned the Falmouth Stakes as a possibility but also highlighted other big races such as the Nassau and Yorkshire Oaks.

“You wouldn’t be risking her on anything with ‘firm’ in it,” he added.
