In a shocking turn of events, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has revealed that he turned down an enticing offer from a Saudi Arabian club during the summer transfer window. Despite being linked to Al-Hilal, who had already signed prominent players like Ruben Neves and Neymar, Osimhen made the decision that he believes was best for his career.

“The more I said no to them [the Saudi Arabian club], the more they increased it,” admitted Osimhen during an interview on The Obi One Podcast. “That week was a huge decision for me to make but I put everything in God’s hands.”

The persistent pursuit from Al-Hilal only intensified as their transfer window neared its end. However, motivated by what is best for his career rather than financial gains alone, Osimhen decided against making such a move.

“I didn’t want to go back thinking that it was going to change my life,” expressed Osimhen. “But I had to make the decision about what is good for my career, as much as we play football for the money.”

Osimhen’s incredible performance last season caught the attention of several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea. However, he denied any substantial links to these clubs during the summer transfer window.

Reflecting on his idolization of former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, Osimhen recounted an inspiring message he received from him last season that provided double motivation.

“Last season he texted me on Instagram,” Osimhen shared excitedly. “When it is someone you like and idolize so much… I took a screenshot of it a few times and then replied. The message was really inspiring and encouraging to me.”

Osimhen admitted that growing up in Nigeria, he admired the English Premier League due to its exciting and high-intensity style of play. Although he does not have a specific boyhood team in England’s top-flight league, he revealed owning jerseys from both Chelsea and Manchester United.

“A lot of my friends were Chelsea fans and a few Manchester United [fans], but in Nigeria everyone watches Premier League,” explained Osimhen.
