Villarreal secures deal with former Blackburn Rovers forward, Ben Brereton Diaz

Former Blackburn Rovers Striker Joins Spanish La Liga Side

In a surprising turn of events, former Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz has made his way to Spanish La Liga side Villarreal. After the expiration of his contract with the Championship club, the 24-year-old decided to embark on a new journey.

Brereton Diaz’s arrival at Blackburn in January 2019 from Nottingham Forest was initially met with uncertainty. However, he quickly impressed during his loan spell at Ewood Park and secured a permanent move shortly after.

The Chile international showcased his talent over the years, scoring an impressive tally of 47 goals in a total of 177 appearances for Rovers. This remarkable record led to Villarreal offering him a lucrative four-year deal.

Last season proved to be particularly successful for Brereton Diaz as he found the back of the net nine times in 43 league matches. Despite their efforts, Blackburn narrowly missed out on securing a spot in the play-offs.

What makes Brereton Diaz’s story even more intriguing is his switch of allegiance from England’s youth set-up to represent Chile internationally. This unexpected decision paved the way for him to spearhead Chile’s campaign in the prestigious Copa America tournament held earlier this year.

With seven goals scored across twenty caps so far, it is clear that Brereton Diaz has become an integral part of Chile’s national team setup. Their memorable run sadly came to an end at the quarter-final stage when they faced off against Brazil.
