ToggleWales Insist All Players Remain in Contention for World Cup Clash Against Argentina
In the lead-up to their highly anticipated World Cup quarter-final clash against Argentina, Wales have assured fans that no player has been ruled out of contention just yet.
The Welsh team currently faces injury concerns surrounding fly-halves Gareth Anscombe and Dan Biggar, as well as full-back Liam Williams. However, head of physical performance Huw Bennett revealed that everyone is still available for selection.
“As far as I am aware, everybody is available for selection,” stated Bennett confidently.
Despite losing Taulupe Faletau to a broken arm during their previous match, Wales have called up scrum-half Kieran Hardy to strengthen their squad. This move demonstrates Warren Gatland’s commitment to maintaining a competitive team despite the setback.
Doubts Surrounding Fly-Half Gareth Anscombe’s Fitness:
Gareth Anscombe suffered a groin injury while warming up before Wales’ dominant victory over Georgia. As a result, he was replaced at the last minute by Sam Costelow. The extent of his injury remains uncertain and continues to cast doubt on his availability for the upcoming quarter-final match against Argentina.
Dan Biggar also faced an injury concern after sustaining a pectoral injury early on in Wales’ record-breaking win against Australia. Despite this setback, Biggar managed to contribute significantly before being replaced by Anscombe during the game.
Liam Williams Recovering Well from Knee Injury:
Liam Williams suffered a knee injury during the match against Georgia, leaving the field on crutches. However, Bennett reassured fans that Williams’ condition is not as severe as it initially appeared.
“They’re good – the boys are recovering well. Liam was on crutches after the game but that was just precautionary,” confirmed Bennett regarding Anscombe and Williams.
Impressive Performances by Replacement Players:
In the absence of Williams, Leigh Halfpenny has proven to be a natural choice for full-back position while wing Louis Rees-Zammit seamlessly stepped in during games.
Taulupe Faletau’s Loss Felt by Welsh Squad:
Wales experienced another setback when losing Taulupe Faletau due to his broken arm during their victory over Georgia. Instead of bringing in a specialist back row player, Gatland opted to replace him with scrum-half Kieran Hardy who will provide support to Tomos Williams and Gareth Davies in this crucial position.
Facing Argentina’s Strengths Head-On:
Argentina demonstrated their prowess by defeating Japan with a score of 39-27, setting up an exciting quarter-final encounter with Wales. As both teams possess physicality and passion along with talented players, Bennett anticipates an intense clash on Saturday.
