British para-cyclist William Bjergfelt has taken the cycling world by storm with his recent victory at the C5 road race during the World Championships held in Glasgow. This triumph marks a significant milestone for the 45-year-old athlete as it not only secured him his first-ever world title but also boosts his chances of being selected for the Paris Paralympics next year.

However, considering that there are around twenty male athletes vying for just eight spots on Team Great Britain, I understand that competition is fierce.”

“Ben, my coach, has delivered exceptional training plans that have brought me here,” Bjergfelt acknowledged with gratitude. “This year, I’ve achieved remarkable consistency in road races; my worst result being third place. It’s mind-blowing to be ranked third globally.”
During the C5 road race in Dumfries where he clinched gold, Bjergfelt displayed outstanding strength and determination. Breaking away early on and forming a breakaway group with two other riders, he maintained an impressive pace throughout the race despite challenging weather conditions.
In a thrilling sprint finish witnessed by his family amidst cold rain showers, Bjergfelt crossed the finish line comfortably ahead of his rivals to claim victory and don the coveted rainbow jersey worn by world champions.
