Counter-Strike 2 Premier Season Five launches with Cache return and C4 overhaul

Counter-Strike 2’s Premier Season Five has officially launched, bringing the community-favorite map Cache back into the Active Duty pool to replace Overpass. Valve confirmed the change following the IEM Cologne 2026 Major, giving players months to practice the reworked classic in casual and competitive modes before it became available for Premier rating climbs.

The season’s most significant gameplay shift is a complete rework of how C4 explosion damage functions. Instead of applying damage instantly across the map, the explosion now propagates as a shockwave flowing outward from the bomb site. Damage is calculated only when the wave reaches each player, allowing those fleeing the blast to potentially survive with more health than before.

This change eliminates the guesswork that has historically plagued even professional players when judging whether they can survive a bomb explosion. Players can now simply glance at their health bar to see exactly how much HP they will retain, making save decisions for expensive equipment like AWPs more reliable in high-stakes rounds.

Valve has also refreshed the Armory with two new weapon collections and two sticker sets. The Arabesque collection features intricate royal designs with brilliant gold textures, while Spy Tech embraces modern technological aesthetics. Accompanying them are the Fruits & Vegetables and Auto Racing sticker collections, replacing the departing Train 2025, Sport & Field, Sugarface 2, and Elemental Craft sets.

Season Five introduces a new rotation of community-created maps that replace Warden, Stronghold, Alpine, and Sanctum across all game modes. Beyond the headline additions, the update improves scoreboard performance for solo queue players, addresses visual bugs and clipping issues across maps, and upgrades the engine to the latest Source 2 version.
