Antonelli Dedicates Spa Victory to Father on Birthday
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli secured his sixth win of the season at the Belgian Grand Prix, converting pole position into a hard-fought victory over Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc at Spa-Francorchamps. The 19-year-old marked the occasion by signing his bottle of Moët & Chandon champagne with a personal message: “Happy Birthday, Dad,” a gesture that quickly resonated across social media platforms.
Championship Lead Extended After Rival Incident
The result significantly reshaped the drivers’ standings. Antonelli entered the weekend 25 points clear of team-mate George Russell, but Russell’s retirement following a collision with Lewis Hamilton allowed Antonelli to extend his advantage to 45 points over Hamilton, who now sits second. Russell dropped to third, five points behind the seven-time champion.
“The momentum was always there. It was just about getting the result,” Antonelli said during his televised post-race interview. He acknowledged the fortunate swing in the championship battle, adding that the team must continue performing and bringing results to see where they stand at the end of the year.
Only one round remains before the summer break. The Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring is scheduled for 24-26 July, offering the next opportunity for Antonelli to build on his commanding position.
