Kilmarnock edge Elgin with stoppage-time strike
Joe Hugill scored in the 93rd minute to win it for Kilmarnock. His goal gave the side a 1-0 victory over League 2 hosts Elgin City in the Premier Sports Cup group stage.
Kilmarnock played more than an hour with ten men. Jamie Brandon was sent off after 37 minutes, and Hugill’s late strike secured all three points.
Premiership sides advance
St Johnstone were comfortable 3-0 winners against Greenock Morton at McDiarmid Park. Jamie Gullan broke the deadlock from the spot in the 69th minute, Reece McAlear added a second, and Gullan converted another penalty to confirm the Championship side’s defeat.
Holders St Mirren beat League 1 hosts Cove Rangers 4-0 at Balmoral Stadium. The result maintained their 100% record in the group.
Jalmaro Calvin and Luke Douglas scored their first goals for the Buddies. Summer signing Samuel Ramos converted Killian Phillips’ cross before half-time, and 17-year-old Douglas added his first senior goal for St Mirren’s third.
Aberdeen edged Queen’s Park 2-1. Dan Happe headed Aberdeen ahead after three minutes from a corner, and fellow summer signing Lewis Smith slotted the second eight minutes later.
Jim Hamilton headed home from a corner on the hour mark. His goal made the top-flight side sweat for victory.
East Kilbride’s eight-goal thriller
League 1 newcomers East Kilbride came from behind to beat fourth-tier Dumbarton 5-3 at K-Park. Leighton McIntosh scored first for Dumbarton, but Cameron Elliott levelled inside half an hour.
Elliott added a second eight minutes later and completed his hat-trick before half-time. Scott Honeyman pulled one back for Dumbarton with 20 minutes left, and McIntosh scored his second in the 81st minute to level.
Late goals from Darragh O’Connor and Craig McGuffie sealed East Kilbride’s victory.
Lower-league results
Queen of the South eased past Highland League side Brora Rangers 3-0 at Dudgeon Park. Player-manager Nicky Clark opened the scoring on 14 minutes.
Liam Smith netted twice in three second-half minutes to secure the win for the visitors. Montrose beat League 2’s Stirling Albion 2-0 away from home.
Ewan Loudon scored a first-half penalty for Montrose. Blair Lyons doubled the lead two minutes later.
Airdrieonians defeated League 2 visitors Annan Athletic 3-0 through Kian Taylor, AJ Bridge and Henry Lister. Ross County struck early in a 3-1 win over Clyde.
Brian Graham scored after two minutes in the Highlands. Richard Chin added a second inside five minutes.
Nathan Cannon replied for the League 2 visitors. Graham converted a second-half penalty to ensure the hosts’ victory.
Stenhousemuir beat Highland League hosts Brechin City 2-1. Michael Anderson scored first, Dale Hilson levelled before half-time, and Dale Carrick netted on the stroke of half-time.
Inverness were comfortable winners at Lowland League champions Linlithgow Rose. Ryan Duncan and Noa Boutin scored first-half goals for the Championship side.
Shoot-outs and draws
Partick Thistle took the bonus point by winning the penalty shoot-out against Livingston after a 1-1 draw. Robbie Muirhead scored first for the hosts, and Alex Samuel equalised in the 80th minute.
Alloa beat Stranraer on penalties after a 2-2 draw at the Indodrill Stadium. Hamilton Academical won their shootout against Raith Rovers following a 1-1 draw, where Lewis Vaughan’s penalty was cancelled by Cameron Blues six minutes later.
Ayr United beat League 2 visitors Edinburgh City with second-half goals from loanee Owen Stirton and Kenzie Mitchell. Dundee United’s group-stage match against Arbroath was scheduled to kick off at 19:00 BST.
