A Plus Tard considering return to Savills Chase lineup

A Plus Tard Set for Comeback in Savills Chase

Henry de Bromhead, the renowned trainer, has dropped a tantalizing hint that A Plus Tard is poised to make his long-awaited return in the prestigious Savills Chase at Leopardstown on December 28. The talented gelding had previously taken the racing world by storm with a scintillating victory in the 2022 Gold Cup at Cheltenham but has encountered a series of setbacks ever since.

The horse’s first run after his triumphant Gold Cup win resulted in disappointment as he was pulled up at Haydock. Then, last Christmas, he was unable to compete due to unforeseen circumstances. Despite these setbacks, A Plus Tard valiantly fought back to defend his title at Cheltenham but unfortunately experienced bad luck when hampered by another horse’s fall and subsequently being pulled up.

In his most recent outing at Aintree, A Plus Tard finished third behind Shishkin. However, hopes are high for him as he gears up for the upcoming Leopardstown feature alongside stablemate Envoi Allen.

“I hope both Envoi and A Plus Tard will run in the Savills,” said De Bromhead during an interview with Leopardstown Racecourse officials. “A Plus Tard recently showcased impressive form during training and continues to exhibit excellent well-being.”

Envoi Allen is also expected to add excitement to the race as he demonstrated great form with a strong performance at Down Royal. Henry de Bromhead expressed optimism about their chances if they can have a clear run leading up to the event.

Another horse to keep an eye on from de Bromhead’s yard this Christmas is Captain Guinness, a contender for the prestigious Grade One races. The two-miler chose to skip the Tingle Creek in favor of participating in the Paddy’s Rewards Club Chase closer to home on December 27.

“That’s currently our plan; we’d love to secure a Grade One win with him,” De Bromhead confirmed. “Captain Guinness has been consistently impressive and it will be thrilling to see how he fares against tough competition.”

This year’s racing season promises excitement and intense competition as these exceptional horses take center stage during Leopardstown’s festive fixtures.
