Amo Racing and Kevin Stott part ways

Amo Racing Parts Ways with Kevin Stott as Retained Rider

In a surprising move, Amo Racing has decided to let go of Kevin Stott as their retained rider. Stott, who took over the role from Rossa Ryan earlier this year, recently secured Amo’s first-ever Group One victory aboard Bucanero Fuerte in the Phoenix Stakes. Sporting the distinctive purple and white silks, he has enjoyed considerable success during his tenure.

However, Kia Joorabchian, the influential figure behind Amo, expressed dissatisfaction with Stott’s performance on King Of Steel in last Saturday’s Irish Champion Stakes. Despite finishing fourth by just a length behind dual Derby hero Auguste Rodin, Joorabchian felt that a different approach could have yielded better results.

Joorabchian shared with Sun Racing: “I thanked Kevin for his services. This decision was made collectively both on and off the racetrack. We have chosen not to renew his contract for next season since it was always intended to be a one-year agreement.”

Stott has achieved remarkable triumphs throughout the season riding for Amo Racing. Notably, he guided King Of Steel to victory in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and claimed victories aboard Persian Dreamer in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes and Indestructible in the Craven among other notable wins.

The talented jockey had previously served as stable jockey to Kevin Ryan in Hambleton before venturing southward as a freelance rider last autumn.

Joorabchian further clarified: “We fulfilled our promises, he (Stott) fulfilled his commitments and we are parting ways amicably.” Reflecting on his relationship with jockeys, Joorabchian emphasized that he had never experienced any issues. He mentioned his continued support for Rossa Ryan and acknowledged their positive association even after parting ways.

Regarding future plans, Joorabchian stated: “Kevin is an experienced rider, but considering factors beyond racing, I must make the best decisions. As for which jockeys we will employ next, I leave it to our trainers to select the most suitable candidates.”

In response to the news, Stott took to Instagram saying: “Good morning everyone! Unfortunately, I received a text message this morning informing me that I will no longer ride for Amo Racing. I want to express my gratitude to all the trainers and staff who have supported me throughout the year. It has been a privilege to ride such exceptional horses. Wishing Amo Racing all the best in their future endeavors.”
