Ascot Recap: Sacred Angel Takes Charge in Princess Margaret Stakes

Sacred Angel Shines in Princess Margaret Stakes

The Bateaux London Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot witnessed an outstanding performance by Sacred Angel, as she dominated the race from start to finish. Trained by Charlie Johnston, the grey filly proved her worth with a commanding victory.

In a field of 10 talented juvenile fillies, Sacred Angel was considered an outsider at odds of 16-1. However, she showcased her potential with a maiden win at Newmarket just two weeks ago.

Jockey Jason Hart took charge and guided Sacred Angel to an early lead. Despite the pressure from other contenders behind her, she maintained her composure and continued to extend her advantage.

Pretty Crystal emerged as the strongest challenger from the rear of the pack but fell short of catching up to Sacred Angel. The determined frontrunner crossed the finish line three lengths ahead, securing victory for trainer Charlie Johnston.

This triumph marks Johnston’s first Group-race win since becoming sole license holder at his Middleham yard. It also mirrors his father Mark’s breakthrough in the same event back in 1992 with Marina Park.

“Sacred Angel has shown tremendous improvement,” commented Johnston after the race. “She is progressing rapidly and exceeded my expectations today.”

Notably, this was Sacred Angel’s debut appearance donning Nurlan Bizakov’s colors after he acquired her following her Newmarket success through Titanium Racing Club.

    Looking Ahead

Considering future plans for Sacred Angel, Johnston stated: “The owners are sponsors of a prestigious race in France – Prix Morny – so it wouldn’t be surprising if they decide to aim for that next.” He added: “The Cheveley Park later in the year could be another significant target.”

Random Harvest Seizes Victory in Valiant Stakes

In an exhilarating display of determination, Random Harvest emerged victorious in the Longines Valiant Stakes at Ascot. The mare, trained by Ed Walker and ridden by jockey Saffie Osborne, triumphed with a tenacious performance.

Having previously tasted success at Ascot and finishing as runner-up twice at the Berkshire track – including a close call in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes last month – Random Harvest demonstrated her true colors under Osborne’s skillful guidance.

The young jockey, fresh off a treble on Racing League’s opening night, took control from the start and set a steady pace throughout. With Random Harvest displaying unwavering spirit, she refused to yield when faced with challengers down the final straight.

Roman Mist launched an impressive challenge but fell short by just a neck. Thornbrook and Ameynah finished closely behind in third and fourth places respectively.

“This victory means so much to me,” exclaimed Osborne after crossing the finish line. “Random Harvest is such a game filly who truly deserved this win.”

Walker praised his talented mare: “She is legendary; consistently performing well race after race. This win was well-deserved for her exceptional efforts.”

    A Promising Future

As for future plans for Random Harvest, Walker hinted towards upcoming races: “We will consider entering her into prestigious events like Lowther at York.” He expressed gratitude towards owner Lady Bamford for entrusting him with such talent alongside jockey Saffie Osborne during this phase of their career development.
