Bravemansgame aims to retain his Charlie Hall crown in a bold defense

Excitement Builds for the bet365 Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby

Last year’s champion Bravemansgame is among the notable contenders for the upcoming bet365 Charlie Hall Chase event at Wetherby on Saturday. The eight-year-old sensation, trained by Paul Nicholls, emerged victorious in last season’s West Yorkshire highlight before securing a remarkable triumph in the prestigious King George VI Chase on Boxing Day at Kempton.

With an esteemed defense of his King George crown as his ultimate goal this year, Bravemansgame could potentially make his comeback appearance once again at Wetherby. However, whether he participates or not will primarily depend on ground conditions. Having finished second to Galopin Des Champs in the Cheltenham Gold Cup and concluding with a third place in the Punchestown Gold Cup last season, Bravemansgame has proved his mettle against top competition.

The race also features other formidable entries including Pic D’Orhy from trainer Paul Nicholls’ stable who recently claimed victory in the Grade One Melling Chase at Aintree. Lucinda Russell’s Ahoy Senor disappointed during last year’s edition of the Charlie Hall but has another chance to prove himself this time around. Additionally, Ahoy Senor has been entered into another exciting race on the same card called bet365 Hurdle.

Gentlemansgame, trained by Mouse Morris, is the sole Irish contender in this thrilling race. It will be interesting to see how Gentlemansgame performs against a strong field of competitors.

Aye Right from Harriet Graham’s team, Dashel Drasher under Jeremy Scott’s guidance, and Dan Skelton’s Midnight River and Sail Away are also poised to make their mark on the track. With such an impressive lineup of contenders, spectators can expect an exhilarating contest at Wetherby.

According to Jonjo Sanderson, clerk of the course at Wetherby, conditions for the upcoming two-day fixture are expected to be challenging with significant rain in the forecast. Overnight rain has already made the ground slightly softer than usual. The weather forecast indicates further rainfall over consecutive nights along with an approaching storm that could bring heavy downpours during Thursday and Friday. Despite these conditions potentially affecting track performance due to pooling water caused by lifted dykes rather than waterlogging itself; it is hoped that the track will withstand up to 20mm of rain without significant issues. However, if precipitation amounts exceed 40-50mm within a short period of time as predicted by some forecasts currently available; there might be concerns regarding track readiness come race day.

The bet365 Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby promises thrills and excitement as top contenders vie for glory on a potentially testing course amidst uncertain weather conditions. Horse racing enthusiasts should brace themselves for a captivating showdown between talented runners eager to secure victory in this highly anticipated event.
