Bravemansgame’s return expected at Betfair Chase

Bravemansgame Eyeing Betfair Chase Ahead of King George VI Defense

Champion trainer Paul Nicholls has set his sights on the upcoming jump racing season, with Bravemansgame looking to make a strong start. The talented horse is likely to reappear in the highly anticipated Betfair Chase at Haydock before defending his King George VI Chase crown on Boxing Day.

Last season, Bravemansgame gave Galopin Des Champs quite a scare in the Gold Cup and came even closer to him at Punchestown. However, their efforts were overshadowed by Fastorslow’s triumph. Nevertheless, this promising performance has fueled anticipation for Bravemansgame’s return.

“It is highly likely he will start this season in the Betfair Chase at Haydock which has been a brilliant race for me with horses like Kauto Star and Silviniaco Conti,” shared Nicholls. “The timing is ideal ahead of the King George VI Chase at Kempton.”

Nicholls also mentioned that he would consider entering Bravemansgame in the Charlie Hall at Wetherby as his first run. Last year, he emerged victorious in this event. However, there seems to be a leaning towards participating in the Grade One race on Merseyside scheduled for November 25.

While keeping options open, Nicholls revealed that they might also give Bravemansgame an entry into the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury; although challenging with a mark of 172 points compared to Denman’s winning score of 174 points.

Pic D’Orhy Aims for Charlie Hall Challenge

Another contender from Nicholl’s stable eyeing up Wetherby’s Charlie Hall is Pic D’Orhy. Having won four out of five races last season, the impressive horse only faced defeat against Shishkin in the Ascot Chase.

“I’m keen to step him up in trip and am getting him ready for the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby if the ground is suitable,” Nicholls explained. He also highlighted Pic D’Orhy’s breeding, which suggests an ability to stay three miles, opening up more opportunities for success.

Stage Star Ready for Paddy Power Gold Cup Challenge

Stage Star proved to be a shining star for Nicholl’s stable during the previous season. Although not easy to place strategically, Stage Star performs brilliantly when fresh. The plan is straight forward – go directly to Cheltenham’s Paddy Power Gold Cup in November.

Nicholls further revealed that they will consider targeting the Ryanair Chase at the Festival as a likely spring goal. Additionally, he doesn’t rule out exploring a step up in distance with Stage Star, potentially competing over three miles at some point.
