Cancellation of Friday’s Wetherby Racing Card

National Hunt Programme Affected by Weather

Another meeting in the National Hunt programme has fallen victim to the unpredictable weather conditions. The Friday gathering at Wetherby has unfortunately been abandoned due to adverse circumstances.

The heavy rainfall throughout the week led to a significant rise in river levels, resulting in excessive pressure on the track’s drainage system. As a consequence, standing water emerged in various areas of the course.

An update on Wetherby Racecourse’s official website explained: “Following this morning’s inspection at 7am, it is with regret that racing scheduled for Friday 3rd November had to be abandoned due to persistent standing water on the track. Despite some reduction in river levels, insufficient improvement was observed today for safe and fair race conditions.”

Wetherby was initially set to host an exciting event this Saturday – bet365 Charlie Hall Chase – showcasing last year’s winner Bravemansgame and Ahoy Senor among other prominent competitors.

The statement added: “Regarding our prospects for Saturday’s highly anticipated bet365 Charlie Hall meeting, we have witnessed gradual receding of river levels since their peak around 11pm last night. This trend is expected to continue throughout today.”

“Furthermore,” continued the statement, “our internal drainage dykes have also slightly subsided overnight. With a dry and breezy forecast for Friday, we are hopeful of further improvements during today.”

Henceforth, Wetherby Racecourse will closely monitor prevailing conditions as an announcement regarding any official inspections planned for Saturday will be revealed later this morning.
