Crambo Possibly Set to Make Direct Journey to Cheltenham Festival

Fergal O’Brien’s Crambo Shines in Long Walk and Eyes Cheltenham Festival

In a thrilling showdown at Ascot during the festive period, Fergal O’Brien’s talented seven-year-old, Crambo, emerged victorious in the prestigious Long Walk. The Grade One triumph marked a significant achievement for both the horse and his connections.

The captivating three-mile race unfolded as an intense battle between Crambo and the seasoned stayer Paisley Park. Ultimately, it was Noel Fehily-bred Crambo who prevailed, making racing manager Chris Giles proud of their success.

Noel Fehily has been involved with Crambo from its early stages, having performed pre-training duties each season. As the breeder of this promising stayer by Saddler Maker gelding breed, Fehily holds a deep connection to this remarkable horse.

Currently priced at 10-1 for the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival in March, there is speculation that Crambo might bypass any further races before heading straight to Cheltenham.

“Crambo is progressing well; I assume he will go directly to Cheltenham,” stated Fehily when discussing future plans. “However, I have yet to discuss this with Fergal.”

Fehily expressed great joy witnessing such a highly contested race unfold between Crambo and Paisley Park: “It was fantastic to witness that exceptional clash between him and Paisley Park – we couldn’t be happier with his performance.”

Reflecting on their journey together since day one as breeder and owner of the mare used for breeding purposes, seeing such success at a top-level event like Ascot brought immense satisfaction to all parties involved.

Fehily further emphasized their involvement in Crambo’s development: “We broke him, pre-trained him; we go through the same process every year before he returns to Fergal’s yard.”

Crambo has gained a reputation as an absolute delight to work with, showcasing his straightforward nature and undeniable talent. The horse exhibits great discipline and effortlessly delivers outstanding performances.

With Cheltenham Festival on the horizon, all eyes will be on O’Brien’s charge as they aim for further glory at one of racing’s most prestigious events.
